Starbucks-A Battle for Support
January 27th, 2006 by rkl1130Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffee and to request that they send some of it to the troops there.
Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee.
So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by buying any of their products!
As a war vet writing to fellow patriots, I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn’t mean we don’t support the boys on the ground fighting street-to-street and house-to-house for what they and I believe is right.
If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard it and no one will never know.
Thanks very much for your support. I know you’ll all be there again when I deploy once more.

PLEASE DONT DELETE THIS … ALLOW IT TO BE PASSED TO ALL IN MEMORY OF ALL THE TROOPS WHO HAVE DIED SO THAT WE MAY HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE TO SUPPORT THEM OR NOT!!!

I read the post above, and was so disappointed for several reasons…
-I go to Starbucks and had done extensive research on them previously and was impressed by the company.
-Elliott is a Marine who has gone over twice, and I know first-hand how much support back home means to the men and women out there. It’s true that you may not support the war, but I believe you should support the troops. They are out there putting their lives on the line, thousands of miles away from home. Oftentimes, their moral is low and the thing that helps them get through the day and through their tour is the thought of coming home and the support that they are getting from us here.
Being able to have a little piece of home–whether it be from the care packages sent from friends and family or the boxes and boxes of donations that companies have sent over–is a big bolster to their spirits. I don’t think we realize how much of a sacrifice these men and women make everyday, and that for most out there, it is not their full-time job…they are reservists who hold regular jobs and have families that depend on them. Not ones to shirk their duty, however, they have gone overseas to fight this war that seems to continue to lose purpose the longer it goes on.
You don’t have to support the cause, but I think it’s a shame to turn your back on the men and women who help defend the country in which you grow and flourish and profit from.
